This story begins like thousands of others around North America. A guy begins a restoration project, then life gets in the way and the project gets put on the back burner. That is code for being stuck in the back of the garage and having stuff piled on top of it.

For Mark Bard, the story began in 1979 when he began restoring the 1970 Mustang Mach1 you see above. It got stuck in the corner just a year later. In 2006, work finally resumed on the project, which was finally completed this year. 2011.

32 years later!

They say that good things come to those who wait and Marks Mach1 is a very good thing.

This Mustang is an interesting combination of old meets new, as one can see that special attention has been paid to keeping the Seventies flavor, while adding in some modern touches. Read more…

It was revealed a few months ago that there were issues with cheap car insurance. Although drivers believed that they had taken out legitimate policies and had the paperwork to prove it, many were being pulled over by the police and given tickets for not having any form of insurance in place. In some instances, this led to them having their cars seized and having to pay to have them released, although some police forces recognised that there was a deeper issue – some insurers were not updating details quick enough.

Although this has supposedly improved in recent months and insurers have picked up the pace somewhat, there are still a few issues in this particular area.

  • Many students, in both high school and college have trouble finding cheap auto insurance.  In fact, many believe, that they cannot possibly find affordable car insurance, and will instead have to wait until they are in their twenties to save money.  The rates get so expensive that a lot of students simply eschew driving at all until they can afford coverage.  However, there are a number of things students can do to ensure cheap car insurance rates.

    Getting Good Grades

Without question, one of the best ways for students to make sure they get cheap auto insurance rates has to do with their grades.  In high school or at a university level, a student with a high grade point average, or GPA, will be eligible for better rates than a student with a low GPA.  The premise is that, according to insurance providers, those students who get good grades are typically good drivers as well as they are seen as more responsible.

    Driving Well

As with adults, students who are proven to drive well are often eligible for cheap auto insurance rates.  Naturally, they need to drive carefully and must not have any tickets or violations on their driving records.  However, by taking drivers education classes, either in school or independently, they can save money on their car insurance as well.  Car insurance providers appreciate proof that a student is well-learned in the art of defensive driving.

    Looking for Discounts

In addition to being able to get discounts by having solid GPAs, students can also qualify for a number of other discounts.  For example, they may be able to find cheaper car insurance by having low mileage on their car.  This is ideal for students who are on college campuses and do not necessarily drive their cars over long distances.  There are safety discounts as well, which rely on the existence of safety features like air bags, car alarms, immobilizers, steering locks and so on.

    Parental Policies

Currently, there are new rules and policies which say that students can be on their parents’ car insurance policies for a longer period of time.  This can provide extremely cheap auto insurance, provided the student in question keeps his or her driving record clean.  This can be enormously helpful, although it will of course depend on the nature and specifics of the parents’ policy.  In general, however, this allows students to save a lot of money.

There are many other things students can do to find cheap auto insurance, but a surprising amount of those things depend on the student.  It is vital to have a clean driving record and a solid credit score, for instance.  Students can do things themselves, such as taking driving courses, that will ultimately allow them to find affordable car insurance.  Also keep in mind that it is best to purchase a low key car rather than anything sporty to cut down on insurance rates.
